Plot: -Crispin’s mother Asta has just died -Runs off into the woods
Settings: -1377 in England (Feudalism!) -Feudalism: Created order by “enslaving” poor citizens in small manor/farmlands
Characters: -Father Quinel (Priest): is kind and consoles Crispin in his grief. Priest was Asta’s only friend. -John Aycliffe: Steward (in charge of the manor when the Lord Furnival is absent) he commands Crispin to pay a death tax (Crispin’s Ox) which will impoverish (make him poor) Crispin.
